Melanie Ford is a sociocultural anthropologist and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Human and Sciences Program at ArtCenter College of Design. She is interested in lived experiences of climate change and development. Her research and writing span the politics of architecture, design, and urban planning; state and municipal governance; social movements and environmental justice; as well as technology, infrastructure and disaster across the Américas. In particular, she moves between Guatemala and the United States.

Melanie’s work has been funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, as well as interdisciplinary research centers and fellowships at Rice University. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from Rice University.

Melanie has taught undergraduate-level courses in Anthropology, History, Latin American and Chicana/o Studies, Science and Technology Studies, and Urban Planning at ArtCenter College of Design, Rice University, and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
